One of Australia's most recognised retail brands, Kmart Australia Limited operates 228 stores across Australia and New Zealand. As a business, Kmart's goal was to innovate in-store technology by giving its staff new applications to streamline staff processes. With a view to improving staff engagement and subsequently customer experience, Kmart wanted to create an app that was integrated with a Zebra barcode scanner which allowed the staff to perform over 40 shop floor staff functions from a single device.
As a greenfield project, Michael and his team consulted with the Kmart technical team to architect the application and integration for this complex mobile application. We documented and then developed a scalable MVP to gain board approval to move onto the build phase. With an embedded technical team, Michael and his team augmented senior development staff to lead that team and ultimately deliver the mobile application.
After 12 months of architecture design, development, testing and deployment from the team, the application was rolled out in stores nationwide. The application consolidated over 40 different shop floor functions into a single, intuitive mobile interface that integrated seamlessly with Zebra barcode scanners, allowing staff to perform their duties more efficiently while improving the overall customer experience.
"The mobile application resulted in a significant increase in employee engagement, efficiency and ultimately a better customer experience. Michael and his team's expertise in mobile development and their ability to work closely with our technical team was crucial to the project's success."
